The End Of The World ~ VS. ~ The End Of You!

Monday, December 29th, 2014

Some thoughts on the end of the world.

As we see more and more evil happening on TV and around the world, I keep getting asked what I think about the world ending soon. New TV series seem to pop up almost daily dealing with The End Times or “Left Behind” types of Movies.

So I must ask; Is it all just a great big Disney Fun House ride? (Think “Pirates of the Caribbean” or “It’s a Small World After All”)

Perhaps this world and this life is all set up just to see what your actions and reactions will be. Maybe everyone deflates when you leave the room and it’s only you and God all along. Not to say that others don’t matter. Because they do (more than anything), but maybe they’re just part of the big ride.

We are all so concerned about the end of the Fun House itself rather than the end of our individual ride in it. Who cares when the ride is retired and put away? We better care more about when our own Fun House cart pulls up to the exit ramp. What kind of state are we in then? How did we react to the characters along the way?

Maybe the people and situations we meet daily are part of God’s vetting program to see if we are the kind of people with which He wants to share eternity. Of course He loves us, but He is checking to see if we can and will choose to love Him, through others. How do we demonstrate selflessness over selfishness? It’s a learning process.

How many times have we heard stories of saints who helped out a stranger in need and then the stranger disappeared? Or the saint is told by Christ Himself that it was really Him in disguise? What is that all about? If this whole life is not a proving ground for the next?

So, yes pay close attention to those around you. Meet their personal, spiritual, and temporal needs as best you can. But don’t be surprised when the ride is over for you. Keep your eyes on that ending rather than the Fun House burning down!

Hopefully the guy who took your ticket and strapped you in at the beginning, will offer you a hand up and out of your little Fun House cart as He speaks the words we are all “dying” to hear, “Well done good and faithful servant… now enter into the home of my Father”.

Hey All,  I’m working on a tune for GoMoGo.org and PDHC here in Columbus. Their President Tim Welsh asked me to consider writing something for them at the Catholic Men’s Conference  this year. I recruited Neal Havener to help me with the bridge to the song and off I went.

It is a work in progress with lyrics yet to be written but here it is as it stands today.  http://youtu.be/zuepsmrfk_E

The tune is supposed to help a runner or walker in a marathon or 5K or whatever to set a pace. They walk or run to raise money for the Single Mothers who are looking to be able to keep their children rather than abort them. It is a very worthy cause and takes care of those who are here and alive now so please visit their site and pledge to support Tim Welsh as he runs for the cause.

You can make a difference. Let me know what you think!

Oswald And The Herringbones

Hillary and our Fatima Rosary

Monday, October 15th, 2007

I had a very unusual thing happen this weekend. I was attending the Catholic Radio Association’s National Conference in Birmingham,AL. We had 4 days at the Winfrey hotel full of people who are either currently involved with Catholic Radio or who are looking to buy stations etc.

In God’s funny sense of humor, He booked the leading Democratic Candidate for President directly across the hall from our 150+ person Catholic Radio Association Convention. On the 90th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions Fatima. Due to security concerns (I’m sure) no one had told us about this divine appointment until around noon on Friday.

Never have I seen the lines of good and evil so clearly drawn with the exception of my sidewalk prayer vigils at abortion clinics.

What did we do? We prayed. Along with all of you because it was 12 noon on Saturday when everyone else was going to be in prayer for the Fatima Anniversary. We prayed long and loudly and we sang every refrain of the Ave Maria between each decade. 150+ members of the Catholic Radio Association filling the ballroom we were in…two sets of doors wide open spilling out into the Winfrey’s hallway. It was beautiful! We knelt down and faced the gathered crowd in the hallway and Prayed like had been instructed so many times from Our Mother’s approved apparitions.

We were literally 20 feet across the hallway from the ball room where she was. We finished the rosary about the time she arrived, but many of us stayed out in the hall rosaries in hand to identify ourselves as Catholics. Our rather large Catholic Radio Association conference nametags hanging proudly from their brightly colored EWTN lanyards. There were also two – 6 foot high pictures of Mother Angelica and Fr. Mitch Pacwa adorning the Winfrey’s hallway where so many Hillary supporters were gathered.

I was asked by a reporter of the Birmingham News (Paper) if we were praying for her success or against her. I told him we were praying for her to have a change of heart about her pro-death (not pro-choice) stance along with every person in attendance with her. I talked about the 90th anniversary of Fatima and how Mary is the Patroness of the Pro-life movement. Because he was confused about whether we were praying for or against her, I also mentioned that Catholics traditionally have backed Democrats but the leadership of our Church along with bishops like Archbishop Raymond Burke have finally begun to teach publicly that we can not support a pro-abortion candidate and still be Catholic.

He didn’t ask me about Republicans, but I would have told him I personally couldn’t vote for either side if one was not pro-life. (Although, if both choices are personally pro-death I’ll vote for the one most likely to place conservative judges on the Supreme Court) Needless to say I was not quoted in the news. Nor was there any mention or video of our little demonstration in the paper or on TV that night. I even chided the TV crew to get the footage of us praying for the national news feed, but no one there (in the secular media anyway) wanted to report on anything that would disrupt Hillary’s press coverage. Even the reporter who spoke with me asked this question “I was wondering if you were praying for or against us?” Not if we were praying for or against Hillary’s success. So we were heard in heaven and in spirit by all of you even if they absolutely squashed the story locally. However, as Paul Harvey likes to say, now you know the rest of the story.

Peace in Christ through Mary!

Been A While

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

I guess it has been a while since I wrote or posted a podcast. I’ve been appointed as the Station Manager for WUCO 1270 AM Marysville as well as WFOT 89.5 FM Mansfield. Both stations are from the St. Gabriel radio network. Please pray for me as the work is not hard but very demanding. I’ll try to post a new podcast soon. Here is the most recent Catholic Men’s Luncheon , to tide you over. This is Fr. Kevin Lutz speaking on Art and the Church. It is a great talk.

On James Cameron’s Finding Christ’s Body

Monday, February 26th, 2007

I think it is time for a class action lawsuit against the people who make these claims. Isn’t there such a thing as public fraud anymore? If Mr. Cameron and friends can not prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they found Jesus Christ’s un-resurrected body, then they should be charged in public fraud for personal gain.

There are so many ways in which they could be wrong and only one way in which they could be right. To make outrageous claims like this and then sit back and watch the money roll in from books and movies is irresponsible at best and downright damnable if they are wrong and they know it. I challenge them to put all their money (book and movie proceeds) up in escrow to be given to charities if they are proven wrong within 2 years. Let’s see how certain they are of their “findings” then. Otherwise, just admit they’re just on the take and in danger of eternal consequences.

Yours in the resurrected Christ,

Catholic Men’s Luncheon

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Recently I was asked to speak at the Columbus, Ohio Catholic Men’s Luncheon. It was a very great honor for me to give a bit of a witness and a state of Youth Ministry and Media all-rolled-into-one Talk. . This podcast is a recording of that talk. I was speaking quickly because the Mass had gone long and the men needed to eat and get back to work. I hope it is enjoyable to you all.

St. Gabriel Radio Network Announces A New Station WFOT-FM 89.5 for the Lexington/Mansfield Area

Lexington/Mansfield, OH – St. Gabriel Catholic Radio Network launches WFOT-FM 89.5 to service listeners in the Lexington and Mansfield areas.

Starting on St. Valentine’s Day, February 14th 2007, WFOT-FM 89.5 joins WUCO-AM 1270 as the second station broadcasting Roman Catholic programming in the St. Gabriel Radio Network.

The mission of WFOT-FM 89.5 is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ by broadcasting the highest quality Catholic programming for both of the Toledo and Columbus dioceses, 24 hours per day, and seven days per week.

WFOT’s format will offer informational programs dealing with the Catholic faith through talk shows and traditional devotionals such as the Rosary, scripture readings, and daily offering of Holy Mass.

Michael A. Barone is the station manager for WFOT. A former Catholic television producer, Mr. Barone has been involved in Catholic media for many years. Most notably he worked as the producer of the “Mother Angelica Live” show, broadcast by the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) which produces much of the content used by the St. Gabriel Radio Network

“Obviously this is an excellent service for the homebound and the elderly” says Barone, “But the average listener driving in a car or working in an office is just as important to us. We want to help Catholics everywhere to be informed, well catechized, and to lead active lives in the Church. Much of this can be accomplished through local programming and broadcasts of parish activities, missions, and calendars. We hope to deeply embrace the members of parishes in both dioceses (Toledo & Columbus) which we will reach with our signal.”

When asked about running a completely listener supported radio station Barone said, “We understand this is God’s work and everything is done according to His providence. So we will be praying like everything depends on Him, but working like everything depends on us!”

WFOT-FM 89.5 and its sister station WUCO-AM 1270 in Marysville, Ohio are totally listener supported non-profit stations. All donations are 100% tax free.
