Catholic Rap?

July 14th, 2005

Yo! Yo! Yo! Word up to your Blessed Mother!

Ok, Ok! So Fr. Stan Fortuna has got nothing to worry about from this podcaster. This was a fun project I was asked to help with. In just 48 hours I had to turn a set of lyrics for a Catholic VBS program intoa full fledged Catholic Rap Song. Yeah dats right homey! So take a listen and sweeten your ears with this honey of a rap riff: St. John Vianney Rap
Ok, so I’m not down with it or straight up or whatever it should be. This was fun. I hope you enjoy it. Pray for all the little kiddies at the VBS too.

Sorry if the site has been slow for a while. I’ve been out of town and all over the country. I am back now but I will be in the process of moving to a new home. Don’t give up though, I’ll try to post when I can. Once I’m settled back in, I plan to really step up the pace.
Hang in there and keep up the prayers.

The Fall of The Kumbya Generation

April 28th, 2005

Hi folks,

I’m back at my post now. I’ve been all over the country lately interviewing for employment as a DRE or Catholic Youth Minister.

This podcast deals with some of what I found while I was out there. I’m having a good time being back with my family too, which basically means I’ve been babysitting the younger two children while my wife got out of the house for a while.

You can hear my youngest son David Joseph chiming in on the podcast in a few places, but hey, that’s not an interruption by an 11 month old, that’s the clarion cry of the children of God. And hey! At least his parents are Pro-Life enough to have had him and welcomed him into this world!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this humorous piece of my latest Podcasting efforts. I’ll be posting more soon.

God bless you all!

Ebay’s Eucharistic Sacrilege

April 13th, 2005

I just thought I would say a few words about the Ebay sacrilege.

I believe it is a failure on the part of Catholic religious educators that we have come to this point. People like the guy who was selling Christ like some ticket stub memento of Ozfest, obviously do not know who it is they are offending.

This guy must not have even known a real Catholic person or he would have been stopped from going to Holy Communion the first time. He was at a papal event. Someone took him there. He says he is not Catholic but if received the Eucharist from the Holy Father, he was with someone who was Catholic and a conspicuous one at that. You don’t get that close to a Pope unless you are a high ranking official or a true believer. That person, whoever they are, dropped the ball by not explaining our belief in the True Presence of Our Lord (Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity) in the Eucharist.

Why didn’t that person take quick and decisive action when they found out their friend had gone to Communion? I’m willing to bet they did not believe the Church teachings themselves or they were too embarrassed to say anything about it. This was a colossal failure on the part of every Catholic that ever met that guy or his non-catholic friend.

I’m sure the guy selling Our Lord, had told someone else who is a Catholic his story about the event that day. I’m certain he had shown at least a few Catholics his scrap book with the program and the bottle opener and all his other verifying materials. Who else would he most likely show his trophies to but a Catholic, or Catholics?

Why didn’t anyone in that whole line of Catholic people immediately take action to correct the situation?

We can boycott Ebay, I’m fine with that. We can write letters and get people to pay attention to us, but if we do not teach what the Church teaches, we are just kidding ourselves. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but we are only reaping what was sown by our dissenting and rebellious predecessors.

I pray that we all take seriously the charge to catechize our own so that this sort of thing will not ever happen again in the future. It is estimated that 70% of Catholics in America do not believe in the True Presence. This figure is alarming and can be traced back to the same 70% who dissented from Church teachings in Humane Vitae which dealt with artificial methods of Birth Control.

It was the same authority that we told not to tell us “American Catholics” what to do in the bedroom, that vouched for the veracity of the True Presence teaching. When we dissent from that authority (which Christ set up and gave to St. Peter (our first Pope) in The Gospel of St. Matthew Chapter 16 vs 18 (and on), we lost our moral compass, and our certainty that the same authority could bolster our belief in that which we could not see.

Sadly, I think this is going to get much worse before it gets better.

“Forgive them Father… they know not what they do!”

“But to him that much has been given, much will be expected.”

Pope John Paul II Papal Blessing

April 3rd, 2005

This podcast is my remembrance of a special moment when Pope John Paul II gave me a blessing which I was in turn able to share with the whole world. If you would like the blessing too just listen to the podcast and then click on Pope’s Blessing to see the video of his blessing for you. May God Bless this great and Holy man. May he rest in peace and intercede for us!

Pray for the Pope

April 1st, 2005

What more can be said? Pray for John Paul II (The Great!) as he is passing from this life to the next. How sad for us, but how wonderful for him. He is going to where we will all hopefully follow one day. Many of us owe our lives to him and to his teachings. God has richly blessed us with this man and his pontificate. May his final hours bring him great joy as he is met by the Blessed Virgin Mary and brought into the very gates opened by Jesus Christ through His death and resurrection. As He meets God the Father face to face and is given eternal life. Let us pray that we can live our lives out as he did giving 100% to Christ through Mary!
Hail Mary…
Our Father…
Glory be…
Amen! Alleluia! Praise God!

True Greatness

March 23rd, 2005

This podcast is a reflection on my life as I stand at a new set of crossroads. I find myself here after a recent move, a personal friendship crisis of sorts, and a seemingly fruitless job search.

In life there is a time to blow your own horn, to accentuate the positive, and maybe even allow folks to think you are something more than you are. There is also a time for mortification of the ego and severe humility regardless of whatever seeming greatness looms in your not so distant past. I find myself alternately experiencing both of these things at the same time.

Since I want to present myself in the best light while job hunting, I have to blow my own horn so to say. I mean who else is going to do that for me?

However, since I realize it all depends on God and everything good including a good job ultimately must come from Him; I can see the need for self recollection and a humble malleable heart.

This may also help any of you who always think the grass is greener just over the fence.

All my life I wanted to achieve greatness, but I find God is just now starting to teach me what greatness is all about.

I hope you find this humorous look at the inner workings of my mind…well…humorous!

God bless you!

My Anger With Our Elected Officials & the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Case

March 20th, 2005

It’s late Saturday night and early morning Sunday as I recorded this podcast. Terri has been without food and water for many hours now…Our emotions and our hopes keep going up and down.

Now I hear about our inept elected officials screwing around on the job. Between the Senate and the Congress, they have passed two separate but different bills to save Terri and in doing so they have lost valuable time. Who was asleep at the wheel while this happened? A few minutes ago they said that they have finally fixed the two bills into one which will need passing on Monday.

My guess is they would have damned well written and passed one correct bill the first time, if it was their loved one’s life on the line.

I don’t mean to complain about the very people who are working so hard to save Terri’s life, but for those of us who elected them, we’re starting to get a little worried that our best and brightest are …well…neither ! God help them as they try to help Terri! But for us, it is very frustrating to be depending on someone else to right this situation and save Terri.

I’m sorry, but this has become personal to me, and I think to you as well. I had to blow off a little steam. Don’t play this podcast for small children either, I get a little heated.

Pray for these folks! Offer today’s (Sunday March 20th ) mass intentions for them and Terri.
God Bless you all!
